2004 Mural Project
In the summer of 2004, Art of the Lakes sponsored a
community art project, "Four Seasons Mosaic". This
mosaic was created by a number of community
members, of all ages. The project was directed by Annette
Hochstein, with help from Ila Osman and other AOTL members. This
mosaic is on display
on the corner of Lake and Main streets, in downtown Battle Lake.
It was a fun experience for everyone involved!

AOTL Members bring art
instruction back to the Battle Lake Classroom
On
February 4 and 5, 2004, Joanne Cress (shown at right, above) along with
Mary Larson, Annette Hochstein and Deede Hodmefield, presented an art
activity to six groups of 4th, 5th and 6th graders ( 115 children) at
the Battle Lake Public School.
With an assortment of paints and a choice of paper shapes the
children created a great variety of paintings. Designs were incorporated
into their paintings using not only brushes but also gadgets for
printmaking and potatoes which had shapes cut into them.
“We haven't had art for such a long time.” said one little girl
to Joanne Cress as she thanked Joanne for teaching her. Another child
remarked “We’re having a real art lesson!”
The children were courteous and appreciative.
Joanne Cress feels that when teaching art to children it must be
remembered that it is the process that is important and not the final
product. The process must address the stage of development where the
child is at. To do otherwise is harmful to the creative process.

2002
Mural
Project
In 2002 Art of the Lakes artists Stephen Henning and Stacy Lundquist (back row,
in painter's caps) pose with a few other mural artists in front of the
Battle Lake Bakery Mural. Also shown are
the Aments, owners of the Bakery. With a
little help, over 40 children collaborated to create the mural during
an intense three weeks.
