During
the summer of 2008, Art of the Lakes sponsored a community art project, “Art in Mosaics”.
Participants were encouraged to research their favorite accomplished artists work, and then interpret one of the works, in a mosaic.
The project was directed by Annette Hochstein, of Battle Lake, and the work was done in her studio.
By the end of the summer, 37 mosaic tiles had been completed! Participants
included Art of the Lakes members, local community members, residents of several states, and even one made by a woman from Sweden.
The completed mosaics are currently on display at the Battle Lake School, in the foyer by the Royal Broberg Auditorium.
The
purposes and education of the project included encouraging art research, art appreciation, and the technique of creating mosaics.
Participants experienced first-hand the fun, challenges, and the final thrill of completing a mosaic. During
the month of August, 2009, the mosaics will be shown at the Art of the Lakes Gallery, in downtown Battle Lake.
Please stop in at the gallery and see the mosaics, depicting so many wonderful and varied works of art!
While you’re there, enjoy all of the works of art on display in the gallery, located at 108 Lake Avenue South, in Battle Lake. |
