Artist's Statement
"My professional career
during the past 40 years has been varied and rewarding... early work
as a teacher, painter and designer was set aside for many years as I
worked in arts administration, owned two art galleries, served as a
museum consultant and owned retail/wholesale toy
businesses. These detours limited my creative activities.
"Six years ago we moved
to Lake Minnewaska, Glenwood, Minnesota, where my painting,
furniture and design interests were rekindled with the construction
of a new studio by the lake. Constantly exploring new media
and directions, I have recently worked with handmade paper and
handmade paper vessels.
"This year I will
exhibit at six different exhibitions and a one man show in the Twin
Cities. My handmade paper vessels are created from recycled
materials, natural materials such as grasses, leaves, bark, flowers,
corn, etc. The pieces are formed on molds and range from
traditional to contemporary forms and finishes. The art
of handmade paper goes back over 2000 years; in recent years there
has been a resurgence in hand making of paper and it is exciting to
explore the potential of this ancient medium. Each piece
is unique and one of a kind. "
